Initial Consultation
The Design Process begins with an initial consultation with the client at the site. During the initial meeting we listen closely to the client’s desires, goals, values and specific goal requirements for each project. During the meeting we will offer general ideas & solutions for the client to consider, zoning regulations that may apply to the site, construction phasing and time lines. Then we go back to the office and prepare a proposal outlining a description of each design phase that may be needed and the estimated design fees. The Design Process is a time of curiosity and discovery based upon providing the client with options and ideas catered to the client’s individual goals while working with the site’s specific characteristics. Some clients need a planting design for their site to guide them as they work through the years to enhance their home’s curb appeal and personal enjoyment. Others may be embarking on a design and construction process for which a series design phases are needed. These documents include Conceptual Plans, Site Plan, Construction Permit Documents or Working Drawings and Planting Plans. These design steps are catered to the individual needs and goals of the client and of what they want their landscape to ultimately become. Planting Plan
We integrate plantings that complement the overall garden design and architectural style of the client’s home. Whenever feasible, select plant materials that will be allowed to mature into a natural form, and both culturally and ecologically native to the region. Thus lessoning the need for pruning and unnecessary chemicals through the years. We choose carefully from the varied plant palette which thrives in the southeast to provide season interest throughout the year. A good planting design creates the structure of a garden: do it once and do it well. With those bones in place, a garden can continue to evolve gracefully thorough the years. For projects involving construction design and permitting... Conceptual Plans
This is the first phase of the design process for those considering investments in significant hardscape construction elements and new structures on their sites. During the conceptual stage, design goals and construction elements are organized on the site in a manner that supports the client’s aesthetic and function goals. This is the “big Idea” phase of the design process, where we work with the client’s goals and the site’s unique characteristics to realize the property’s potential. These plans are preliminary design studies and not intended for construction. At this time, we will use these plans and discuss the potential of the site and the direction you wish to proceed. The concept plan is a very helpful tool for obtaining preliminary construction ballpark estimates and determining the phases and order of work to be completed.
Final Concept Plan
The next step in the Design Process is to make the necessary changes, revision and adjustments to the conceptual plan ideas and create a Final Concept Plan. This plan is used create preliminary cost estimates. This valuable information enables the client to determine what construction materials may be used, project phasing and develop a construction timeline for the implementation of the project.
Construction Documents: Working Drawings & Planting Plan Construction documents are an essential part of the design process. They ensure that ideas formulate during the conceptual master plan are integrated into the natural environment and specify how the project is built. During this phase the construction details are worked out and guide s clients through material options and cost saving measures. The construction documents provide a level of quality control, resolving many questions up front rather than leaving them to a contractor’s discretion in the field. The details that create a quality project are fully specified in these documents and they give clients the peach of mind that all is built accordingly to expectations and all elements of the design will last for many, many years to come.
